Kenya’s Junior Starlets will spend three weeks in Spain to tune up for the Women’s U17 World Cup after sealing a historic qualification on Sunday.

Kenya’s Junior Starlets will camp in Spain for three weeks before heading to the Dominican Republic for the Women’s U17 World Cup in October and November.

Junior Starlets made history by becoming the first Kenyan side to qualify for a World Cup following a 5-0 aggregate win against Burundi on Sunday.

Kenya had won 3-0 in Bujumbura before a 2-0 victory at the Ulinzi Complex in Nairobi and now, Football Kenya Federation plans to ensure the team gets the best possible preparations.

That will include a three-week camp in Marbella, Spain in September to tune up for the global tournament, set to take place between October 16 and November 3 in the Dominican Republic.

The draw for the tournament is scheduled for this month and it will determine the exact groups and matchups.

Kenya will come up against powerhouses from Asia, like Japan and the two Koreas, who have a strong history in the tournament.

Japan, the 2014 champions, and North Korea, with two titles under their belt, are known for their disciplined play and tactical acumen.

South Korea, the 2010 champions, will also offer a major test to Kenya if they end up in the same group.

From the Americas, traditional football giants like Brazil and the USA are likely contenders while 2022 champions Spain, England and Poland are some of the potential threats from Europe. Nigeria and Zambia are the other teams from Africa already qualified.

Mildred Cheche’s side must be well-prepared if they want to avoid the embarrassment of turning into whipping girls that will lose by big margins and exit the tournament at the group stage.
