Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that his team will embrace the Europa League challenge if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Liverpool have played in the Champions League for six consecutive seasons but their participation in next season's competition is under threat.
Liverpool's top-four situation
Despite a run of three successive wins, the Reds are currently 7th in the Premier League standings, 7 points off Manchester United in fourth place.
The Europa League is significantly less glamorous than the Champions League but Klopp is not looking down on the possibility of the Anfield club's participation in the tournament.
Klopp on Liverpool playing in the Europa League
“We’ll take what we get. That’s how it is,” Klopp said on Friday.
“It’s not that at the start of the season, we said that qualifying for the Europa League would be fantastic but this season taught us a few things. If it’s Europa League, it’s Europa League, absolutely fine.
“What we qualify for isn’t interesting for me currently. I want to create a basis that we qualify for the best possible scenario pretty much, let’s squeeze everything out.
“Let’s play the best possible football. If we get nothing for that at the end of the season then it will be because we didn’t create that situation earlier in the year.
Whatever happens over these final weeks will be very important for next season.”
