The Italian giants had been punished for irregularities in their finance books between 2019 and 2021 but will now breathe a sigh of relief, pending a trial
Juventus have received a massive boost after a successful appeal saw them get back their 15 points that were docked earlier this season.
Just hours before the Old Lady arrives at Lisbon’s Estadio Jose Alvalade for their Europa League quarter-final second leg tie against Sporting Lisbon, Juventus were informed that their appeal of the FIGC’s 15-point penalty from January has been successful, at least temporarily, pending trial.
That means that Juve will get their 15 points back, but will see a new trial take place at some point in the near future. But considering that it could be a month or stretch into the summer (or even next season), Juventus will continue to play with some sense of uncertainty over their heads.
The successful appeal sees Juventus jump back into third place of 59 points, three points ahead of fourth-place Roma.
Juve getting their 15 points back also means that both of the Milan clubs, who will meet in the Champions League semi-finals, are now suddenly out of the Champions League spots for next season.
The Serie A giants were punished for irregularities in their finance books between 2019 and 2021 when they were found guilty of using several fictitious capital gains to cover some gaps.
Those operations were labelled “mirror operations”, which indicated that Juventus swapped players with another club for an inflated value and without effectively moving money.
Former Juventus directors Andrea Agnelli, Pavel Nedved, Maurizio Arrivabene and Fabio Paratici (now at Tottenham) have seen their bans revoked on a temporary basis in line with Juventus’ 15-point penalty.
