When it rains, it pours in Turin as Juve lose more points in Serie A

Juventus’ year is going from bad to worse as another Serie A shock today saw them lose at home to Monza after AC Milan earlier lost to Sassuolo

The record Scudetto winners who started the year being docked 15 points for financial misappropriation, have now been dealt a further blow in their efforts to reach the UEFA Champions League places after falling to Monza at the Juventus Stadium.

Juventus were undone by goals from Patrick Ciurria and Dany Mota as they lost their second Serie A game in three fixtures

Juventus have not won a game since they had 15 points deducted from their total, and things just got worse with a 2-0 loss at home to Monza who are now above the Old Lady on the Serie A table.

Monza pulled off a modern-day miracle, scoring twice from only three shots in total and somehow managed to keep a clean sheet while at it.

How it happened

Juventus entered the game against Monza knowing that they needed to win to try to offset the effect of their recent points deduction.

And who better to need a win against than Monza, who had won just one of their last five competitive fixtures (against Cremonese), had recently lost to Juventus in the Copa Italia, and had not kept a clean sheet in eight matches right? Wrong!

It took less than 20 minutes for Juventus to realise that they were in trouble when Monza’s Ciurria opened the scoring with Monza’s first shot of the game.

Monza scored again with their second effort of the match in the 39th minute, this time Mota finishing with aplomb to send the visiting fans into rapture.

Monza entered the break with a 2-0 lead, and fought against a barrage of shots as Juventus tried to find a way back into the match.

Monza didn't hit their third and final shot of the match until the 82nd minute of the second half, and in the time between their second and third shots, Juventus had attempted to find the net 14 times with no success.

Monza leapfrog Juventus in Serie A table

In the end, Monza ran out comfortable winners with a 2-0 win that they will savour for some time to come.

To rub salt into the Juventus wound, Monza’s win means that they claim above the Old Lady on the Serie A table, confining them to the bottom half of the table.

It also represents an incredible achievement for the minnows of Monza as their win means that they have completed a double over Juventus in the league, beating them home and away.

There seems to be no end to Juventus’ troubles with reports that some players might also face bans for their roles in the plusvalenza scandal, and this loss to Monza would have done nothing to soothe their current agony.
