The Gunners secure a comeback win over the Saints to maintain unbeaten start to the Premier League.
Havertz scored for the seventh straight game at the Emirates as Mikel Arteta’s side record 3-1 win over Southampton.
The victory took Arsenal to within one point of league leaders Liverpool, who secured a hard-fought 1-0 win away at Crystal Palace in the day’s early kickoff.
How it happened
Contrary to expectations heading into the game, Southampton held Arsenal to a goalless draw at half time.
The Gunners, despite having a lion share of the possession, could not carve open the Saints, managing to register their first shot on target in first-half stoppage time.
Things went from bad to worse for Arsenal when Cameron Archer finished off a fine counter attacking move to put Southampton ahead in the 55th minute after Raheem Sterling was robbed off the ball.
However, conceding the goal seemed to be the spark that Arsenal needed as they leveled the game three minutes later through Havertz off a Bukayo Saka assist.
10 minutes later, the Gunners went ahead with Saka providing another assist from a sumptuous pass over the defence for substitute Gabriel Martinelli to poke the ball home.
Southampton came close to restoring parity after striking the crossbar from a corner kick, but they were ultimately undone when Saka added a third in the 88th minute to seal the win for Arsenal.
