The 'Abana Abeingo' will face a stern test of their credentials when they face Kariobangi Sharks

Kakamega Homeboyz will be raring to go when they face Kariobangi Sharks in the quarterfinals of the 2023 FKF Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Abana Abeingo head coach Patrick Odhiambo admitted it would take much work against Sharks as both teams will fight for honours.

Homeboyz booked their place in the last eight with a narrow 1-0 win over nine-time champions Gor Mahia with the lone goal of the match coming from Moses Mudavadi.

"All the teams in the tournament are looking forward to winning. This is a knockout tournament, and we will have to have a winner at the end of the game.

However, players are very motivated towards this game as you know we are remaining with three matches, and if you win, you represent the country in CAF Confederation Cup," he said.

Homeboyz will have to be at their best against a hungry Sharks side that has shown they have what it takes to score goals.

Sharks beat Division One side Equity FC 1-0 in the Round of 16, with the lone goal coming from former Dagoretti High School marksman Paul Odhiambo.

The William Muluya-coached side are still on a mission to win their second FKF Cup title, having won the 2018 edition of the tournament.

The 36-year-old gaffer has built a formidable young team, the highest-scoring team in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League with 43 goals.

Muluya will have the likes of Fortune Omotto and Matthew Kibiwott, who have proved pivotal for the team in both competitions.

In the head-to-head stats, the two teams have locked horns 14 times with Abana Abeingo winning 10 matches compared to the Sharks' two victories, while two games ended in a draw.

The most recent meeting between the two sides was on April 12, where Homeboyz claimed a 3-1 victory in a match played at Police Sacco Stadium.
