FOOTBALL Kamura reveals what it will take to keep his place in Harambee Stars squad

The center back returned to the Harambee Stars set up for the first time in five years in June.

Kakamega Homeboyz defender Robinson Kamura revealed that hard work earned him a place in the Harambee Stars squad for the first time since 2018 before the side jetted off to Mauritius for the Four Nations Tournament and it is what will keep his place.

Kamura played no part during the assignment but was proud to have returned to the side as it indicated he must have impressed at his club to earn a call-up to Engin Firat’s squad.

“I was excited to be back because of the hard work I had been putting in since I was not able to be there in the last four or five years,” Kamura told Sports Eye.

“Harambee Stars, the national team is not an easy thing to be there. You have to toil, you have to work hard because there are many players who want to be there.”

Kamura intends to earn more caps in the future, but acknowledges his work will be cut out given the country has “a lot of talent” that are competing for the same positions.

“It is not the same as the junior level. You have to show the coaches your level because they come to matches and sometimes even training sessions. You have to be top-notch level for you to be called (up).

“I will continue working hard because there are so many players and Kenya has talent, so I should not just be comfortable with being called up. I should work hard maybe to get a position in the national team.”

The former AFC Leopards captain has revealed that the experience he has gained over the last four years since his last call-up may give him an edge for near-future call-ups.

“Going by time and my age, I think experience comes in, you know what to do at what time and I think that is what has been helping me and when I went to Kakamega Homeboyz, I settled in well and got some matches (under my belt) and I think I played in all the matches.

“When you play, you are seen and your work is seen. I can say I have been working behind the scenes in a very good way.

“With every challenge and every coach, comes a new learning process. I learned so many things with the call-up from coach Firat which will help me moving forward even in the league matches.”

Kamura is helping his side Homeboyz prepare ahead of their return Preliminary CAF Confederation Cup leg match against Al Hilal Benghazi this Saturday.
