Mbappe wins French Footballer Award
The 25-year-old was named French Footballer of the Season earlier today, his fourth, which took him level with Karim’s number of wins.
While the former PSG man won by a huge margin this season, the voting were close this year, as his 56 points were only five more than Arsenal's William Saliba.
The breakdown of the voting has been released, and it revealed that Benzema did not vote for Mbappe as first, second or third. Instead, he voted for Eduardo Camavinga, Bradley Barcola and William Saliba.
Reports of hostility
According to L’Equipe, the relationship between Mbappe and Benzema are fractious, and this is suggested to be the reason for the 36-year-old’s snub.
Mbappe and Benzema had a cordial relationship during their brief stint as Les Bleues teammates, but that relationship is believed to have soured.
Another Al-Ittihad star, N'golo Kante, also snubbed Kylian; instead, he picked William Saliba, Jules Kounde and Eduardo Camavinga.
