Uganda Premier League defending champions Vipers SC have missed captain Milton Karisa in the past four games in all competitions, and his absence has visibly been felt.

The 27 year-old, who has had over a week's training with the first team, is expected to play a leading role in his side's road to renaissance after a somewhat indifferent season.

"I am so happy to be fully back after the injury I sustained, but I have come back to help the team fight for the remainder of the season," Karisa said to the club media.

The winger will first have to lead his charges against Maroons FC on Wednesday at the Luzira Prisons grounds.

"The general focus is on the league and the Uganda Cup, but we shall take it one game ago. Tomorrow is our focus at the moment."

Vipers currently sit fourth on the 15-team log with 28 points, 10 adrift of leaders SC Villa who have played five games more and can not afford to slumber if they are to master a title defence.

"We are going to do everything we can, give in an absolute effort to see that we win the game," the USPA Player for 2022 rumbled.

The Venoms ran out comfortable 3-0 victors in Kitende in the reverse fixture in the first round, thanks to a goal from Karisa himself and two from Yunus Sentamu.

It will be the 10th time the two are meeting in the league, dating back to the 2015/16 season.

In the previous nine, Vipers has the lion's share of victories; seven and two draws, while they are yet to lose even once.

Meanwhile, Maroons have not lost a single league game in their previous five. On the contrary, Maroons won thrice, including a 1-0 win against KCCA FC last time out.
