The loss saw NEC, on 37 points, drop from second to fourth, trailing the Royals by three points.
National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) skipper Marvin Kavuma is still confident that the team will win the Startimes FUFA Big League title on the first attempt despite losing their unbeaten run to their rivals Kitara on Thursday.
NEC had fought hard to pick a point from the top-of-the-table fixture played at the Bugolobi Coffee grounds on Thursday but a lapse in concentration towards the end cost them the three points.
Rogers Mato failed to match Lazaro Bwambale’s speed inside the box opting to push him awkwardly with the referee William Oloya pointing straight to the spot.
Ramadhan Dudu calmly planted the resultant penalty for the win.
Kavuma absolved his teammate of any mistakes for the careless push as he rallied the team to pick up the pieces and build again.
“We didn’t lose concentration as such but that happens in football,” Kavuma said.
“We tried our level best but we didn’t get the result we wanted. We now have to go back and assess ourselves and fight back to regain the top position but I can assure [our fans] that we shall finish in the top position at the end of the season,” he rallied.
