Mulu joined KCB as a free agent in February after leaving Wazito last season.

KCB FC left-back Erickson Mulu insists he is focusing on establishing consistent performances and is dreaming of earning a Harambee Stars call-up in the future.

The highly-rated left-back, who was based in Spain had been training with the club alongside Apollo Otieno when Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno decided to sign both players to his ranks for the second half of the season.

“I just thank God for the opportunity to be able to play regularly,” he said. “It has not been that good, but it has not been that bad either,” he added.

The former Wazito FC defender moved to Spain on a sports scholarship after impressing in the trials organized by the Green Sports Academy which seeks to develop and give players access to opportunities.

However, the 23-year-old could not get going in Spain due to injuries before he came back to Kenya, where he signed for Wazito before terminating his contract and joining the Bankers.

Mulu has had his work cut out to nail a starting left-back slot, with Harun Mwale providing stiff competition.

“It has been challenging to have players battling and fighting for your position as well. On the bright side, it brings a sense of competition as well but so far, so good.”

Mulu has created a telepathic partnership on the left flank with Musa Masika since their days at Wazito. The former Malaga City FC left back believes playing together for a long time has contributed to their quick start to life for the Bankers.

“Musa and I have known and played with each other for a long time. We have been at Wazito together and are now playing for KCB together. So it has helped that we know each other’s games.”

Mulu intends to get his career back on track professionally and break into the national team setup, but admits patience and “God’s timing” is key.

“I just have to work hard, find some consistency and stay fit. I have to get my starts right in order to be able to be good enough to go professional again and even get into the national team. God’s timing is the best!”
