KCCA becomes the seventh Uganda Premier League to have qualified. the others are Vipers, Bul, Express, Bright Stars, Onduparaka and Wakiso Giants.
KCCA FC put a solid performance to beat Kataka 3-0 on Monday afternoon at the Mbale City stadium to progress to the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16.
Charles Lwanga had a chance just after eight minutes when he found himself with Edward Kasibante in Kataka’s goal to beat, stole the ball and planted in but the referee ruled it out for a foul on the keeper.
Kataka kept growing in confidence but could only contain the rampant Kasasiro Boys for 36 minutes before skipper Allan Okello fired in the opener.
The hosts kept the pressure on and could have gone ahead seven minutes into the second half only for Rogers Mato to clear Derrick Onyai’s attempt off the line.
Coach MorleyByekwaso quickly added firepower by introducing Congolese forward Simon Kankonde and Ashraf Mugume for Muhammad Shaban and Usama Arafat. The change yielded fruits immediately.
Kankonde ran cooled Lwanga’s pass to power in the second shortly after the hour-mark. Mato sealed the win from the spot five minutes later to send KCCA to the round of sixteen.
