KCCA FC head coach Sergio Traguil has blamed the absence of his strikers after losing their opening match of the 2023/24 StarTimes Uganda Premier League 1-0 to BUL in Njeru on Saturday.

Left-back Nicholas Mwere headed in the 78th minute to give the edible oil makers the three points.

Traguil bemoaned the defensive error that led to the goal, his team’s wasted chances and the absence of his top strikers like Shaban Muhammad.

“We didn’t allow them to build but they just scored the goal and finished. Sometimes, that’s how football is; it is not the best team that wins [all the time],” the Portuguese told media after the game.

“I did not have any striker on my bench because the ones that we have are injured. Shaban is injured and [Emmanuel] Loki had not trained with us, so we played without any offensive options on the bench. We need more firepower in front but let’s see what we can do [about it],” he emphasized.

KCCA FC returns to action next week on Saturday when they face Libyan side Abu Salem in the second leg of their first-round match of the CAF Confederations Cup.
