The KCCA board has had endless meetings about who should be the next coach for the football club, and they have had a couple of names penned down.

From Jackson Mayanja, Sam Ssimbwa, Abdallah Mubiru, Kefa Kisala, and Jackson Magera to the return of Jackson Mayanja and the next KCCA FC coach might come from those or elsewhere.

At one time a possibility of Ssimbwa and Mayanja working together as co-managers, as was the case in 2015 when the football club hired Mutebi and Ssimbwa was discussed.

“It is one of the things the board discussed. Whether they were serious or not, I can’t tell, but it came up in one of the discussions,” a source from Lugogo told Pulse Sports.

“Just like Ssimbwa and Mike (Mutebi) in 2015, much as they didn’t last as a combo, but the board believes it’s a move that might bring results,” the source added.

If it was to happen, it would be the first time the two former club teammates are working together though they have both coached KCCA FC at different times.

Ssimbwa coached KCCA FC in 2002 and later in 2009 before working with Mutebi in 2015; Mayanja was at it in 2017 and filled the void left by the resignation of Morley Byekwaso last season.

Mayanja and Ssimbwa boast of coaching experience of over 40 combined, not only in Uganda but across the African continent.

But only Ssimbwa boasts of silverware, having won the Uganda Cup with Mbale Heroes (1999) and Express (2007); he also won the league with the latter in 2012.
