Mayanja was only recently promoted to the senior team from the academy alongside Alex Yiga and Anthony Emojong, but the striker is already giving the new tactician selection headache.
After winning his first competitive match as KCCA FC head coach, Sergio Traguil was left amazed by what he saw from some of the players he expects to win silverware with.
But most notably, the Portuguese was impressed by youngster Abubakar Mayanja’s level in the team’s 2-0 win over Wakiso Giants in the quarter-final of the FUFA Super 8 Tournament last Friday.
Speaking to the club media, Traguil said: “I am happy with Abu Mayanja.”

FOOTBALL CAF appoints eight Ugandan Referees for continental games
Continental football custodians, CAF, have appointed eight Ugandan referees to handle two Confederation Cup and Champions League bouts.
Mayanja made an instant impression as he bagged a brace to send the Kasasiro Boys to the semi-finals in his first match in the famous yellow colours.
“The young man is adapting well to senior football and developing steadily. He plays with a lot of confidence despite his age,” Traguil added.

CAF WCL Can Kampala Queens 'rob' Ethiopian bankers?
Ugandan champions Kampala Queens must beat Commercial Bank of Ethiopia to boost their chances of progressing to the semifinals of the CAF Women's Champions League qualifiers.
KCCA still have the likes of Muhammad Shaban and Tshisugu Kankode, but the pair will have to convince Traguil that they are good enough to start ahead of Mayanja.
KCCA dominated Wakiso and put on a show in the second half of the game to excite the home crowd that has longed for free-flowing football at Lugogo since the departure of Mike Mutebi.
Traguil, however, believes there is still a lot more his team must do before the start of serious business if they are to win their first piece of silverware since 2019.

FOOTBALL Coaching in Tanzania was a worthwhile experience – Abdullah Mubiru
The former Cranes international, who took over the club's coaching reign in June 2022, is best known for his entertaining style at every club he has coached, and it wasn't any different at Mbeya City.
“There is still so much we can do, and we will improve each game we play. They are playing way better than I was expecting at this time. This is just the 4th week of pre-season, and the lads are playing at a top level.”
KCCA’s next task is against URA FC in the semi-final of the Super 8, the winner of which will face BUL for the trophy.
