The draw moved KCCA to 37 points, three behind table leaders SC Villa, albeit with two games in hand.

KCCA FC’s chase for the top spot in the Startimes Uganda Premier League hit yet another snag after a 1-all draw with relegation-threatened Blacks Power Wednesday afternoon in Lira.

The 13-time league champions went into Wednesday’s clash on the back of another stalemate against Maroons in front of the home crowd.

They desperately needed to win to go to within a point of table leaders SC Villa.

Blacks Power are in the red zone on the table and started like a team intent on getting maximum points.

The start was perfect for the hosts, who took an early lead in the seventh minute through Robert Eseru.

Custodian Derrick Ochan had to be at his brilliant best to deny Blacks Power from extending their lead before KCCA’s equalizer arrived.

Having started the game with Rogers Mato leading the line, Morley Byekwaso brought on Tshisungu Kankonde for right-back Haruna Lukwago as the visitors searched for an equalizer.

The equalizer eventually came after some sustained pressure from the visitors.

Denis Iguma connected with Allan Okello’s corner kick to head home, and level matters for the visitors in the 37th minute.

The two sides went into the halftime break tied at 1-all.

A relatively balanced second half had both sides struggle to create opportunities in front of goal.

Byekwaso’s triple substitution almost paid off when Muhammad Shaban set up Arafat Usama, but the midfielder lost his footing in the penalty area.

Usama struck from outside the box, but his shot went wide of Tonny Kyamera’s goal, and that was the last opportunity.

The draw moved KCCA to 37 points, three behind table leaders SC Villa, albeit with two games in hand.

For Blacks Power, it is a race against time to stay in the top division, and the one point moved them to 16, three ahead of bottom side, Onduparaka.
