The thirteen-time league champions, who are out searching for an assistant head coach for the Junior team, have zeroed down on their former and Uganda Cranes striker Brian Umony.

The technical changes at KCCA FC still need to be done, at least for the Junior team.

The thirteen-time league champions, who are out searching for an assistant head coach for the Junior team, have zeroed down on their former and Uganda Cranes striker Brian Umony.

Pulse Sports can reveal that both parties have held discussions with Umony expressing his readiness to take on the role, but both parties are yet to agree on personal terms.

The Junior team head coach Saka Mpiima is said to have recommended Umony, having played alongside him during their days at Lugogo between the 2014 and 2015.

The 33-year-old former prolific forward who recently acquired his CAF C coaching license has been part of the Proline FC coaching staff, working alongside head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa.

Brian Umony at KCCA FC

Umony broke onto the scene at KCCA FC in the 2007/08 season, scoring 16 goals in his debut campaign as he guided KCCA FC to their first league title since 1997, winning the Footballer of the Year award in the same season.

He then moved to South Africa’s SuperSport United before having stints at clubs like Portland Timbers in the MLS, Azam FC in Tanzania, St. George in Ethiopia and Becamex in Vietnam. He also had a second stint at the Lugogo in 2012.

Umony, however, had a career-threatening injury in 2016 when he got a leg fracture at St. George in Ethiopia; he recovered from the injury and returned to active football but didn’t hit the same high notes as before.

KCCA FC is also said to be considering former left-back Habib Kavuma to be part of the Junior team set-up.

The Kasairo boys under Mike Mutebi had a robust junior side; in 2015, the KCCA FC youth team produced players like Allan Okello, Julius Poloto, Mustafa Kizza, Lawrence Bukenya and Noel Nasasira who have gone on to have professional stints and also feature for other local clubs.

KCCA FC have never won the FUFA Juniors League but came close in the 2018/19 season when they lost to BUL FC in the final.
