The signing of left back Mustafa Kizza will only add to Byekwaso’s selection headache. KCCA FC is a team that has options in almost every position.
With the kind of investment and the history of KCCA, every season comes with high demands. Silverware is what the club looks for in every competition.
And when the Lugogo based outfit start their journey in this year’s Stanbic Uganda Cup in a clash with KJT, head coach Morley Byekwaso will have it in mind that silverware has been hard to come by lately despite the huge investment in beefing up the squad.
“Our objective has never changed. We want to win the Uganda Premier League or the Uganda Cup and that has always been our target every season,” Byekwaso said ahead of Monday’s Cup game.
“We are not taking JKT lightly. We respect our opponents and we shall field the most competitive players against them,” he added.
KCCA were eliminated by Bright Stars at the Round of 32 last season and will be hoping to go all the way this season.
But getting past the first hurdle is what matters for now and Byekwaso is confident.
“We believe if we do the right things and stick to our principles that we shall progress to the next round.”
By the time the Uganda Premier League took a break, KCCA were in a good place.
They are top of the log with 29 points from 14 games and will be hoping to start from where they left off.
Strong squad
The signing of left back Mustafa Kizza will only add to Byekwaso’s selection headache. KCCA FC is a team that has options in almost every position.
Centre back Peter Magambo spent the first round of Premier League season in the sickbay but is back in the squad.
Geoffrey Wasswa and Mustafa Mujuzi looked to have formed a formidable partnership in the first round and Magambo will have to earn his place.
Julius Poloto, Ashraf Mugume and John Revita are all ruled out with injuries while youngsters Faisal Wabyona, Saidi Mayanja and Haruna Lukwago are on National duty with the Uganda U-20 side preparing for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
KCCA went past Busia United at this very stage last season and will be looking to do the same against KJT.
