KEFOFA have lauded Kenyan fans for turning up in large numbers to witness Junior Starlets qualify for the U-17 World Cup for the first time in history.

The Kenya Football Fans Federation(KEFOFA) President Francis Liboyi has praised Kenyan football supporters for their enthusiastic turnout to support the Junior Starlets, who have made history as the first football team from the country to qualify for a World Cup.

The Junior Starlets secured their place in the U-17 Women's World Cup, set to be held in the Dominican Republic in October, with a 5-0 aggregate win against Burundi.

Kenya triumphed with a 3-0 victory in Bujumbura before sealing their qualification with a 2-0 win at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi. The large crowd of fans who gathered to witness this historic moment were not disappointed and are now eagerly anticipating the World Cup.

“On behalf of all sports stakeholders, we convey our congratulatory message to the Kenya National U-17 Women’s team Junior Starlets for qualifying for the 2024 U-17 World Cup,” Liboyi told Pulse Sports.

He also extended his gratitude to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Ministry of Sports under CS Ababu Namwamba for their efforts in supporting the team.

“Kudos to FKF and the Ministry of Sports under CS Ababu Namwamba for a job well done," he added.

Liboyi particularly commended the patriotic Kenyan fans for their impressive turnout. “I congratulate our gallant and patriotic Kenyan fans for turning up in large numbers despite the short notice we issued, and we salute them,” he said.

Looking ahead, Liboyi expressed optimism and enthusiasm for the upcoming tournament. “Looking forward to lifting the World Cup at the Dominican Republic in October,” he concluded.

The overwhelming support from fans and the coordinated efforts of sports officials have played a significant role in this historic achievement for Kenyan football.

The Junior Starlets' journey to the World Cup is a testament to the country's growing passion for the sport and the potential for future success on the international stage.

Meanwhile, Liboyi called for increased fan registration with the federation to bolster their organisational capacity and improve future planning, especially considering fans could have a chance to travel to The Dominican Republic to support the side.
