FC Talanta suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat at the hands of AFC Leopards.
FC Talanta coach Ken Kenyatta has revealed the main problem besetting the club's hopes for better strides.
Talanta suffered a humiliating 6-0 humbling to AFC Leopards in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League match played at the Nyayo Stadium on Thursday.
Speaking after the match, Kenyatta disclosed the off-field problems that have led to his team's current poor form and challenged the club’s management to end the issues.
“The team is not motivated at all. We have not been paid for a whole year, and also we don't have a field for training. Recruitment is also a big problem in the team because they don’t pay,”said Kenyatta.
“We expect more than that. If you don't have a field for training or pay players then what do you expect?.”
Talanta took to the field without their lead striker Brian Yakhama together with Alvin Ochieng and Kevin Otieno, who are reported to have suffered injuries in a road accident along the busy Thika Super Highway.
“My goalkeeper and top striker got an accident yesterday. We had finished training, and when I reached home, I received a message that the three players were on their way to Kasarani when they got into an accident,” he added.
They have won just three matches and have collected 12 points from 14 matches that they have played this season.
Kenyatta has been at the helm of Talanta since December 2019 and led the club to the Premier League in his first season at the club.
Since the beginning of the 2022-2023 season, the club has struggled on and off the pitch owing to inadequate finances.
The team currently trains at a dilapidated Kenyatta National Hospital pitch that cannot even accommodate an 11-aside training match.
FC Talanta was formed in 2012 and played in local tournaments before joining FKF Divison One League in 2013.
After winning the 2020-2021 National Super League (NSL), the club enjoyed sponsorship from the Communication Authority of Kenya when they earned promotion to the top tier.
