Kennedy Musonda's goal in the 14th minute was enough to gift Yanga the Azam Sports Federation Cup trophy for the second season in a row.

Yanga capped off an amazing season with a win over Azam FC in the Azam Sports Federation Cup final, beating them 1-0 courtesy of a goal by Kennedy Musonda, to take home the trophy for the second season in a row.

Timu ya Wananchi came into the game hoping to put behind the disappointment of losing the CAF Confederation Cup to USM Alger by completing the domestic double with a win over Azam in the final played at the Azam Complex on Monday afternoon.

The game lived up to its true billing of being tightly contested between two strong sides that finished first and third respectively in the Tanzanian Premier League.

Yanga produced seven shots in the first half, three of which were on target, while Azam produced three shots at goal, all of which were amazingly on target.

The shot on target that ultimately counted was Yanga’s who opened the scoring through Musonda in the 14th minute from a corner kick that had been won by Rossien Kisinda, but the effort was well saved by Azam keeper Iddrisu Abdulai.

The corner was taken short, before Djuma Shaban hit a cross that was headed back across goal for Musonda to score to put the Tanzanian league champions ahead.

The goal would be enough to separate both sides, and Yanga will certainly now look back on an unforgettable season as they prepare to take part in the CAF Champions League next season. Azam will take part in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

After the final, Yanga captain Bakary Mwamnyeto praised Azam for giving them a good game, "Azam are good team we respect. The game was difficult and we had to rely on a single early goal."

Kenyan international Kenneth Muguna who turns out for Azam FC missed the clash after he had linked up with the Harambee Stars squad that is set to take part in the Mauritius Four-Nation Tournament.

Muguna was however dropped from the 23-man squad that jetted out to Mauritius after he was axed by Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat.
