Kenya 7s Co-Captain Tony Omondi has revealed two things about the Paris 2024 Olympics he will never forget.

Kenya7s Co-Captain Tony Omondi has shared two unforgettable moments he and his teammates experienced at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Shujaa, the Kenyan national rugby sevens team, achieved their highest-ever finish at the Olympics, securing ninth place last Saturday.

Despite fielding a largely inexperienced squad, the team gained valuable experience and is now regrouping as they prepare to return to the HSBC SVNS series after winning promotion last June.

Omondi revealed two "Oh my God" moments from the tournament that stood out for him. "The first game (against Argentina) was my ‘Oh my God’ moment. Walking on to the pitch and finding the stadium fully packed.

“ I have never seen something like that, and for the fans to chant ‘Go Kenya, Go,’ it was something special for us," he shared.

The other memorable moment for Omondi was their victory over Uruguay. "Winning our first game against Uruguay was very special.

"We know what happened in 2016 and 2020, so coming into this one with a very inexperienced squad with all the weight put on their shoulders, to get two out of five wins is special.

With the HSBC SVNS series not commencing until November, Omondi is focusing on recharging.

The Mwamba fly-half hinted that he would not participate in the local 7s circuit. "For me personally, I do not want to see a rugby ball for the next couple of months," Omondi joked.

"I hope that will be possible but we all love the game. There is the local circuit going on, and I know some of the boys will be with their clubs, especially those who did not get a lot of airtime during the Olympics.

“I will be focusing on recovering the niggles I have and getting my body in shape for the next series."
