Akoth has explained what winning the 2023/2024 Women's FKFPL Most Valuable Player award means for her.

Kenya Police Bullets’ Lydia Akoth has opened up on what winning the Women’s FKF Premier League Most Valuable Player award means for her.

The awards were presented at the FKF Gala held on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Safari Park Hotel.

Nicknamed 'Ozil' for her creativity and technical skills, Akoth stood out in a season where the newly formed Police Bullets dominated the league, winning 15 games and drawing four to claim the crown unbeaten.

Reflecting on her journey, Akoth expressed immense pride in her achievement.

“It is a good achievement and a dream come true for me,” Akoth said.

Akoth's stellar performances were instrumental in Bullets' success. Her ability to retain possession, pick out passes with both feet, and score crucial goals made her a standout player, and her MVP award was well-deserved.

Akoth credited her teammates, coaching staff, and the club's management for their support and role in helping her secure the award.

“The season has been tough, but we worked hard as a team to win the league unbeaten. It was my dream to be named MVP,” she said.

“It is a great achievement for the team. We would have loved to have won all the trophies, but we fell short. Next season, that certainly has to be an aim for us.”

Looking ahead, Bullets face a challenging pool in the CECAFA Women's zonal qualifiers, scheduled for August 17 to September 4 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

They will compete against hosts Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, Yei Joint FC (South Sudan), Warriors Queens (Zanzibar), and Rayon Sport (Rwanda).

Akoth shared her targets for the upcoming championships, expressing confidence and determination.

“We are motivated, especially having been named champions. Our preparations for the CECAFA qualifiers are going on well, and we will give it all we have,” she said. “I want to win more trophies, both individually and as a team, in the near future.”

As Akoth looks forward to more success, her journey and achievements serve as an inspiration to her teammates and aspiring footballers across Kenya.
