Matasi's mistakes have directly contributed to the last two goals Kenya Police have conceded.

Kenya Police coach Abdul Iddi Salim  has jumped to the defence of Harambee Stars goalkeeper  Patrick Matasi following a series of errors that have led to their recent defeats.

Matasi's mistakes have proven costly, with the latest occurring during their match against Tusker on Saturday at the Police Sacco Grounds.

This error is the second in less than a week, negatively impacting his team. Last Wednesday, at Dandora Stadium, Matasi mishandled a seemingly simple cross from Victor Omune, resulting in a goal that ended Kenya Police's unbeaten streak across all competitions this year.

On Saturday, Matasi misjudged another delivery into the area, missing the ball and allowing Charles Momanyi to score the winning goal for Tusker. The former AFC Leopards goalkeeper has tended to have problems commanding his area, and the two scenarios showed it.

This gave Tusker a double victory over Salim Babu’s squad. Despite these setbacks, Iddi, responsible for Matasi’s training, emphasized that errors are part of the game.

“It was something to do with concentration, and mistakes do happen in football. What is most important is how we recover and become better in our next encounter against AFC Leopards in the FKF Cup,” Iddi explained to the media after the match.

Iddi was quick to give Tusker FC their flowers, having executed their gameplan to perfection which enabled them to return to winning ways following their draw against City Stars in midweek.

“The game was not good for us, and we have to congratulate Tusker for the good game they had. For us, we have to rethink and do much better in our next game,” he added.

Kenya Police currently sit third in the league, but following their weekend FKF Cup commitments, will have two weeks to rest and regroup, to allow for the international break.

Iddi has revealed why the two-week recovery period will be a good thing for the side.

“The break will be a good thing because we have had too many games too close together.

“We will have rest and try to make a few corrections because, after so many games, psychologically, mentally, and physically, the players are tired. The break will be good for the team,” he concluded.

Kenya Police will face AFC Leopards in the FKF Cup semi final at Dandora Stadium on Sunday.
