Kenya Police coach has defended his goalkeeper Patrick Matasi over his habit of over-dramatising situations and time-wasting tactics when his team are leading.
Kenya Police interim coach Salim Babu has jumped to the defence of goalkeeper Patrick Matasi over his tendency to indulge in theatrics during matches.
Matasi, an established Kenyan international, has created a reputation for playing mind games and over-dramatising situations, as well as deploying time wasting tactics when the team are in the lead.
This has tended to put him in match official’s bad books, and against Shabana during their last league encounter, he tried to exaggerate an injury after falling down weirdly while contesting for an aerial ball with one of his opponents.

Babu has, however, jumped to the defence of his veteran goalkeeper.
“It is not the first time he has done that, and I have spoken to him a couple of times but he listens," said Babu.
“At Police, people are willing to listen. However, on a football pitch, you may succumb to the pressure of situations.”
Babu believes that pressure can at times get the better of Matasi, which may force him into making unorthodox decisions at times.

Babu took over as Police head coach following a tumultuous first half of the season, but has lost none of the games he has been in charge, who now find themselves in fourth place.
“Maybe the pressure came to him, but he actually listens and accepts that he can make mistakes,” he added.
Meanwhile, Babu has explained why he has opted to use David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng’ and Musa Mohammed as his preferred defensive pairing at the club since taking charge, and why players like South Sudan international Rashid Toha have barely featured.
He highlights their natural understanding, and the team's defensive record as a reason behind choosing them as first choice pairing.
“Since I took charge, I used them and they have since had a natural understanding so you cannot keep changing," said the former Nzoia Sugar coach.
