Kenya Police FC midfielder cum defender David ‘Messi’ Owino has explained the reason he earned the nickname of arguably the greatest ever footballer to have graced a pitch.
Like Argentine great Lionel Mesi, Owino is diminutive, left-footed, and a quick mover with sleek feet, and the way he plays naturally draws comparisons to the FIFA World Cup winner.

Owino might not be playing in a Police shirt much longer after being invited for a chance to set up with the reigning Taiwan league champions.
Speaking to Pulse Sports, Owino, who is expected to move to Taiwan for trials with Tainan City next week has now explained how he ended up getting dubbed ‘Messi’.
“The coach did it because I think he thought that my movements in training gave him the idea that I would do a job there (number 10 role),” Owino said.
