The final touches are now being put together on his lucrative free switch.
Former Ulinzi Stars midfielder Kevin Amwayi has entered a pre-contract agreement to join Kakamega Homeboyz as a free agent.
The 34-year-old signed a one-year contract with Abana Abeingo which is expected to be made official in the coming days.
Homeboyz have been tracking the player following his displays with FKF Divison One side Kona Rangers.
“Amwayi has signed a pre-contract with our club, and he will officially join us when the transfer window opens,” confirmed Kakamega Homeboyz team manager Boniface Imbezi.
Amwayi is an experienced player, having started his football career at former FKF Premier League side Western Stima in 2011.
Ulinzi Stars later signed him at the beginning of 2012, and he left the club at the end of the 2019 season before resurfacing at Kona Rangers in January 2022.
The arrival of the experienced midfielder is aimed at helping the Homeboyz crusade secure a domestic double, which will also present competition for places between Amwayi and Eli Aseiche.
The mid-season transfer window opens on Monday, 27th February.
Apart from Amwayi, Homeboyz are expected to bring in FC Talanta striker Brian Yakhama and re-sign defender Enock Masinza from Vihiga Bullets.
Yakhama is one of the top strikers in the league this season, having scored eight goals for his club.
Ulinzi and KCB have also been linked with the goal-poacher but Kakamega Homeboyz remain his first choice.
The trio is set to become the first major signings for newly appointed coach Patrick Odhiambo.
The well-traveled coach replaced John Baraza, who was recently shown the door following a series of poor results.
Kakamega Homeboyz are currently eighth on the league standings with 21 points from 15 matches.
