Uganda women’s under-18 coach Ayub Khalifa is not impressed with the team’s overall performance despite beating Zanzibar 3-0 at the CECAFA tournament currently on in Tanzania.

Uganda dominated the matchday two affair but failed to break Zanzibar’s backline for an hour before Brenda Munyana pulled through to break the deadlock in the 63rd minute.

Agnes Nabukenya doubled the lead two minutes later before phiona Nabulime sealed the win with seven minutes to go.

The win temporarily lifted Uganda to the top of the table, but they returned to second place after Tanzania beat Ethiopia 2-0.

Coach Khalifa, who had rallied his team to capitalise on Zanzibar’s frailties and score enough goals, was not happy with the earlier mistakes.

“We expected to score many goals, but we ended with three goals,” Khalifa mourned the missed chances.

Attitude

Khalifa has now embarked on working on the player’s attitude and mental strength ahead of the do-or-die encounter with the table leaders on Sunday.

“We shall spend the off-days working on these girls’ attitude and their mental strength because when you watched the game, we played good football but not scoring.

“Maybe they thought the team was weak, or their bodies are down and not willing to score, so that’s what we shall work on in those four days,” he said.
