Ugandan giants St. Mary's Kitende Kibuli SS matched levels in the second day of the FEASSSA football Championship in Rwanda.

Record 12-time East Africa Secondary Schools football boys’ champions St. Mary’s Kitende came from a goal down to grind a point against Kibuli in their second group game on Monday afternoon in Huye, Rwanda.

Kitende marshalled a stunning 3-0 victory over Tanzania’s Kiwira Coal Mine on Sunday in their opening match, but the going got tough against their compatriots.

Derrick Kirungi put the holders Kibuli up early in the game, but Fazil Tumwine pulled back for Kitende.

The Ugandan champions remain hopeful that they will bounce back to winning ways on Tuesday when they face hosts Ecose Musambira at 3 PM.

“We wanted a win, but a draw is not bad because we were playing the defending champions, and these boys know each other,” Ramathan Male, the Kitende head coach said after the draw.

“We had a game yesterday (Sunday), but they rested, so that kind of fatigue played a part. We’re going to prepare the boys psychologically, and I’m very confident we shall progress past the group stages,” the coach is confident.

In the other game of interest, Allan Oyirwoth and Alfred Ejoyi scored as St. Henry’s College Kitovu forced a draw against Amus College.

Monday results;

Amus College 1:1 St Henry's College Kitovu

St. Mary’s Kitende 1-1 Kibuli SS

Tuesday fixtures;

11 PM – St. Anthony’s (Ke) vs Amus college

11 Am – Kitovu vs CGFK (Rw)

3 PM – Ecose Musambira (Rw) vs Kitende

3 PM – Dagoretti High (Ke) vs Kibuli SS
