The announcement comes amidst a major reshuffling of the team which includes releasing five players, bringing the total number of exits to eight since Abbey Kikomeko took charge.
BUL Football Club has signed on highly-rated young defender, Nicholas Mwere, from Busoga United on a three-year contract.
The announcement comes amidst a major reshuffling of the team which includes releasing five players, bringing the total number of exits to eight since Abbey Kikomeko took charge.
Aged 22, Mwere, a rock-solid left-back player, is expected to patch a significant hole in the Eastern Giants' backline.
Previously, he had made his mark at JIPRA in secondary school competitions and at the Kakira Town Council in Jinja district's lower divisions before moving to Busoga United in 2021.
Head coach, Abbey Kikomeko Bogere, who has worked with him for the last two years was effusive in his praise for Mwere.
“I opted for Mwere. I looked at his height, and his work rate. He is a young and promising defender,” Bogere said. "I expect him to become a better defender now that he has joined BUL.”
Expressing his elation at joining BUL FC, Mwere stated, "I am excited to join the Eastern Giants.”
“BUL is a winning team. They recently won the Uganda Cup, and I expect to win more titles with them."
The move comes as BUL FC moves to fill the left back position, a gaping hole left by the departure of Aggrey Madoi, who had been instrumental in the team's success since 2020.
Madoi's remarkable performances had helped the Eastern Giants to reach their first-ever Uganda Cup final in 2021 and win the competition the following year.
However, Madoi is not the only player leaving BUL FC. Four others have also been released by the club, including Paul Ssekulima, who joined the team in January 2023, and junior team graduates - Edrine Cavan Mawerere, Herbert Onyango, and Owen Mukisa.
Particularly noteworthy is Mukisa, who made headlines as the youngest ever player to captain the Eastern Giants and scored a crucial goal against Express that led BUL FC to the Uganda Cup final in 2021.
