The Liverpool strikers have not been on top of their game but turned up in a 7-0 mauling of their rivals, and manager Jurgen Klopp showered them in praise after the game.

Liverpool forwards Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, and Roberto Firmino ran riot on Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.

The Liverpool strikers have not been on top of their game but turned up in a 7-0 mauling of their rivals, and manager Jurgen Klopp showered them in praise after the game.

"We were aggressive, counter-pressed, lively, super active in all the right moments, and everybody saw how good the boys could be," Klopp said in the post-match press conference.

"Nobody doubts Darwin's future impact because he is a real force of nature."

"Cody plays the most difficult area of the pitch against a man-marking side, which is tricky, but look how he keeps himself on his feet and provides the overview for everyone else."

"And Mo is Mo!" an amused Klopp said of the Egyptian who became the club’s all-time leading top scorer in the Premier League with 129 goals after surpassing Robbie Fowler’s previous record.

Gakpo, Nunez, and Salah bagged a brace while Firmino came off the bench and put his name on the score sheet.

The Kops have had an indifferent season but have picked up form at the right time regarding the race for the top-four finish.

Victory took the Reds in fifth place on the 20-team EPL log with 42 points, three behind Tottenham, who are fourth with 45 but have played a game more.

Liverpool's next assignment is in the Champions League Round of 16, where they have a mountain to climb against Real Madrid in the second leg on Wednesday.

Having lost 6-2 at Anfield a fortnight ago, Klopp's side will need a performance similar to what they put up against United to eliminate Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu.
