18-year-old wunderkind Kobbie Mainoo has emerged as a fan favourite following his performances for Manchester United in the preseason.
Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo has got fans of the Red Devils purring for more after another outstanding outing for the club.
Mainoo was in action as United defeated former Premier League title contenders Arsenal twice in one night at the MetLife Stadium, USA.
The Red Devils won 2-0 in regular time before sealing the deal 5-3 on penalties to claim early bragging rights against the Gunners heading into the season.
Mainoo impresses again
18-year-old midfielder Mainoo started again as manager Erik Ten Hag continues to build up the youngster ahead of what could be a breakthrough season.
As usual, Mainoo had 45 minutes to impress and the talented young midfielder did not fail his boss and fans.
Looking calm and confident on the ball, the youngster was hardly fazed by the presence of 100 million pounds star Declan Rice and fellow summer signing, Kai Havertz, who both started in midfield for the Gunners.
Mainoo showed he is ready for the big step this season with a composed performance he marked with an assist for the opening goal scored by new captain, Bruno Fernandes.
He completed 96 per cent of his passes, lost possession only once, made one interception and won one tackle before he was subbed off at half time.
United fans praise Mainoo
Following another impressive display, United fans have been left purring for more from their young midfielder.
The Red Devils were vocal on social media where they expressed their beliefs that the Premier League giants have gem on their hands.
According to some of them, the wonderkid may be the real deal and generational.
“We have some player on our hands,” one of the club’s fan account posted on Twitter during the game against Arsenal.
“Kobbie Mainoo can comfortably play as a lone 6 or as an 8 in a double axis,” another United fan named Mane Garrncha stated. “He's so good. We struck a diamond there.”
“This Kobbie Mainoo performance was absolutely generational,” a Bruno Fernandes fan account said of the youngster.
Another United fan added that “Mainoo is the real deal, hard to not be excited for the kid. Cooked that fraudulent carbohydrate in green.”
“Mainoo might just be the reason we leave Amrabat in Italy,” yet another fan identified as Buchi stated.
Mainoo narrowly lost to United’s skipper Fernandes in the man of the match award as voted by the fans. The Portuguese polled 36 per cent of the votes while the youngster had 35.
