The France national team captain will see his former side PSG in court if the situation persists
Real Madrid welcomed Kylian Mbappe to the club on Tuesday with a presentation that was only matched by Cristiano Ronaldo's 15 years ago.
While Mbappe has headed off on holiday, he still has some business to attend to in France regarding unpaid wages from Paris Saint-Germain.
Mbappe makes Real Madrid move despite unpaid PSG wages
One of the main characters involved in Mbappe’s unveiling was the France captain’s mother and agent, Fayza Lamari, who broke down in tears upon seeing her son welcomed to the stage by Real Madrid President Florentino Perez.
Speaking to Le Parisien, Lamari said, “It is the biggest club in the world. On Tuesday I felt the difference, for example, with PSG. The Parc des Princes is extraordinary. But when you arrive at Real Madrid, you feel the weight of the institution. It’s a club with a huge history.”
Despite the joyous occasion, Mbappe is still owed wages from PSG and some of his signing bonus, with some reports claiming that it is as much as €100m. Lamari confirmed this, although she did not specify the amount, saying, “It is now in the hands of Kylian’s representatives. But I trust that PSG will resolve it quickly. We just received a letter from them. Decisions will be made. […] I hope that all this does not tarnish everything we have experienced. I want to remember the positive things about PSG.”
Mbappe and PSG headed for legal tussle
Lamari also warned that Mbappe’s lawyer, Delphine Verheyden, would take the matter to court if necessary. “If we have no other choice, yes, of course. Now, I really hope that the contract we signed two years ago is respected. In reality, no one can say what happened, neither me nor the PSG representatives, because for two years Kylian and the president have always met alone, except once.”
The debate centres around a reported verbal agreement between PSG CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Mbappe. This agreement allegedly involved Mbappe foregoing some of his wages if he left on a free transfer, in exchange for PSG returning him to action with the squad. Mbappe had been left out of their preseason tour and was being threatened with a year in the stands.
Despite the problems with PSG, Mbappe will be focused on Real Madrid, and once he returns from holiday will be hoping for the perfect start to his Los Blancos career.
