LaLiga president Javier Tebas issued a bizarre response to Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr after the Brazilian complained on Twitter about being racially abused against Valencia
LaLiga president Javier Tebas has inexplicably turned on Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr after the Los Blancos man was allegedly racially abused by fans during the team’s match against Valencia.
Vinicius Jr suffers racist abuse yet again
The LaLiga game between Valencia and Real Madrid had to be halted in the second half after Los Blancos winger Vinicius complained to centre referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea that there had been racist chanting coming from a section of the Valencia crowd.
The Brazilian winger even pointed out the specific fans involved in the chanting but was eventually persuaded to continue the match.
The match ended poorly for Real Madrid and Vinicius, as he was sent off in extra time after being involved in an injury-time scuffle as Los Blancos succumbed to a 1-0 loss.
After the game, an irate Vinicius took to Twitter to air his grievances about the continued abuse he had faced at the hands of opposition fans and bemoan LaLiga’s apparent blind eye to the situation.
Tebas responds to Vinicius on Twitter
In response to the Twitter message, LaLiga president Tebas, issued a scathing rebuttal, accusing Vinicius of not understanding what racism is and asking him to be better educated about the league's responsibilities and how it plans to tackle racism.
While quoting Vinicius’ tweet, Tebas said, "Since those who should not explain to you what it is and what it can do @LaLiga in cases of racism, we have tried to explain it to you, but you have not shown up for either of the two agreed dates that you requested yourself.
"Before criticising and insulting @LaLiga, it is necessary that you inform yourself properly @Vinijr.
"Do not let yourself be manipulated and make sure you fully understand each other's competencies and the work we have been doing together."
This continues an ongoing battle between the pair after Tebas had previously criticised Vinicius’ stance against the league’s efforts against racism.
