RFEF to hold 'extraordinary general assembly' over Jenni Hermoso kiss
Spanish Football Federation releases statement following backlash over Rubiales kissing Jennifer Hermoso.
The administrator infamously kissed Spain's women's national team's top goal scorer, Jennifer Hermoso, on the lips during the medal ceremony that followed La Roja's World Cup triumph.
The incident followed a spate of media condemnation, with many asking for Rubiale's resignation. However, following today's extraordinary general assembly to discuss the incident, the 49-year-old announced he would not resign.
What Iglesias said
The Real Betis striker took to social media to express his displeasure with the outcome of today's assembly.
The 30-year-old who only recently made his Spain national team debut last year and has gone on to win two caps, has now announced that he will no longer make himself available for selection, as a protest against the incident.
“I am sad and disappointed,” Iglesias said on X.
“As a footballer and as a person, I don't feel represented by what happened today in the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas. I find it unfortunate that they continue to press and focus on a colleague.
“Wearing the Spanish National Team shirt is one of the greatest things that has happened to me in my career. I don't know if at some point I will be an option again, but I have made the decision not to return to the National Team until things change and this type of act does not go unpunished.
