The Ex-Chelsea manager decided to resign as Lazio boss following the loss to a Maduka Okoye-inspired Udinese side
Maurizio Sarri, the head coach of Lazio, has decided to step down from his position due to the team's disappointing performance.
Following Lazio's 2-1 defeat to Udinese, their 12th loss of the Serie A season, Sarri communicated his resignation to the club's management. The defeat further exacerbated tensions within the team, leading to a strained atmosphere at the Stadio Olimpico.
Sarri's final match in charge was the defeat to Udinese, where Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye delivered an exceptional performance, denying Lazio crucial points at home, ultimately contributing to his decision to resign.
Training Camp and Decision to Resign
In response to the poor results, Lazio's president Claudio Lotito and sporting director Angelo Fabiani called for a training camp to address the team's struggles ahead of the remaining matches of the season.
However, Sarri made the decision to resign, indicating a lack of confidence in his ability to turn the team's fortunes around. His resignation was promptly communicated to the club's officials, marking an immediate departure from his role.
Tense Meeting with the Squad
Reports suggest that Sarri held a tense meeting with the squad following the loss to Udinese, seeking to understand the reasons behind their decline in form.
Despite no explicit requests from the players for him to leave, the lack of support for his continuation prompted Sarri to tender his resignation.
