Tottenham will be hosted by Leicester and Domonic Solanke is expected to score on his debut for Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur embark on their 2024/25 Premier League campaign with a visit to newly-promoted Leicester City on Monday night.

Kick-off is set for 10:00 PM at the King Power Stadium, where Spurs aim to build on their encouraging performance under Ange Postecoglou from last season.

Tottenham, who narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification last term, have bolstered their squad significantly with the addition of Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth.

The 26-year-old striker, who netted 19 Premier League goals last season, is expected to make his debut, despite nursing a minor foot injury.

With Richarlison also a doubt due to his pre-season injury woes, Solanke's participation will be crucial.

James Maddison, facing his former club, and new signing Archie Gray could also feature prominently.

Leicester City, fresh from winning the Championship, have faced a turbulent pre-season.

They will be led by new manager Steve Cooper, who replaced Enzo Maresca. Leicester’s preparation has been hampered by injuries, with key players Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka likely to miss out.

Backup goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk and center-back Conor Coady are also unavailable, which could force Cooper to hand debuts to new signings like Caleb Okoli and Facundo Buonanotte.

The Foxes’ defensive resilience will be tested against a Spurs attack that has shown considerable potency.

Tottenham’s recent form includes a mix of victories and narrow defeats, while Leicester struggled in their pre-season matches, including a heavy 3-0 loss to Lens.

Historically, matches between these two sides have been high-scoring, with Tottenham winning four of the last five encounters.

Leicester’s recent form and injury concerns suggest they may struggle against a well-equipped Spurs side.

Despite Leicester’s home advantage, Tottenham's superior quality and attacking threats, including Son Heung-min, who has a strong record against Leicester, make them the favorites.

Line-ups

Leicester

Leicester City are likely to field a 4-2-3-1 formation with goalkeeper Mads Hermansen protected by a back four of Ricardo Pereira, Wout Faes, Jannik Vestergaard, and Daniel Kristiansen.

In midfield, Wilfred Ndidi and Harry Winks will anchor the team, while a creative trio of Fatawu, Facundo Buonanotte, and Chris Willock will support lone striker Tom Cannon.

Tottenham

For Tottenham Hotspur, a 4-3-3 setup is anticipated, featuring Guglielmo Vicario in goal, flanked by Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Destiny Udogie in defense.

Yves Bissouma and Archie Gray will play alongside Pape Matar Sarr in midfield, with Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, and Son Heung-min leading the attack.

Dominic Solanke may also make his debut, potentially replacing Kulusevski or starting in a central role.
