Bayern Leverkusen defeat Bochum 5-0 to take their unbeaten run to 50 games.
Bayern Leverkusen extend their unbeaten run to fifty games with a five to nothing thrashing on Bochum in their Bundesliga meeting.
The last time Leverkusen lost a match was almost a year ago, when Bochum won 3-0. Surely Leverkusen atoned to that loss in spectacular fashion.
This amazing run has eclipsed Portuguese club Benfica’s record of 48 consecutive games unbeaten in all competitions from late 1963 to early 1965. This is now the best record since the formation of UEFA competitions.
This goal fest gift was granted to the Leverkusen fans by; Patrick Schick, Victor Boniface, Amine Adli, Josip Stanisic, and Alex Grimaldo. The Bundesliga champions now have eighty seven points, 15 more than Bayern Munich the longest reigning champions.
A young supporter cried as he watched his team get battered ruthlessly by Alonso’s army. This loss kept Bochum at risk of relegation as they are only three points clear. They face Bremen in the final fixture.
Expressing his joy, Leverkusen midfielder Robert Andrich said; “I think already the Bundesliga – you can’t imagine how much that means for the club or the fans. We’ll lift the trophy next week in our stadium. It’s going to be very emotional. And then we go to Dublin and we go to Berlin. We want to get two titles there and then go on vacation with the triple in our backpack.”
Leverkusen will face Italian side Atalanta in the Europa League Final in Dublin on May 22, three days before it plays Kaiserslautern in the German Cup final in Berlin.
The future seems to produce more exciting matches. If Leverkusen win the Europa League and Real Madrid win the UEFA Champions League, they will meet for the UEFA Super Cup.
Time will decide all this. We just have to wait.
