More on Lionel Messi
Messi's stay at PSG was less than enjoyable for the 36-year-old as he has spoken of struggling to connect with his family and never really settling down, in any form. He was also suspended for taking an unauthorised trip after a game and found it difficult to garner the affection of die-hard PSG supporters.
In the end, he made the decision not to extend. Although there was a strong desire to return to Barcelona, the financial situation meant the 7-time Ballon d'Or winner will be playing for Inter Miami next season.
Barcelona also took to social media to wish Messi a happy birthday, despite missing out on a chance to bring him back to the club.
