Lionel Messi has taken to Instagram to thank Inter Miami for honouring him after the club put up an elaborate display to celebrate the Argentina international’s 45th career trophy.

Inter Miami honour Messi
Over the summer, Messi set another record. With Argentina’s Copa America triumph over Colombia, the former Barcelona forward became the most decorated individual in football history.
Inter Miami did not pass up the chance to celebrate the Argentine. The Miami-based side faced the Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer action last Saturday, and before kick-off at the Chase Stadium, a show was prepared for their captain, who was in the stands with his wife Antonella Rocuzzo.
The homage entailed highlights of select memorable moments in Messi's career, with an elaborate display of fireworks serving as a backdrop for the occasion. He was then presented with a collage of all his trophy wins, creatively crafted into the ‘45’ figure.

Appreciative of the gesture, Messi took to Instagram today, after he must have taken it all in, to express his gratitude to the institution and their fans.
"Thank you so much for the recognition, @intermiamicf! It was a pleasure to share this moment with our people on the pitch."
Messi is still nursing an ankle injury sustained at the Copa America and his return to action will be determined by the progression of his injury.
Inter Miami are getting by in his absence, maintaining their position at the top of the MLS standings. Jordi Alba and Matias Rojas scored to help them win 2-1 against the Chicago Fire as they keep trundling on despite missing their fearless leader.
