While currently playing for Inter Miami, Messi’s comments have reignited hopes among fans of a potential reunion with their beloved icon.

Speaking about his family’s attachment to the city, Messi added, “My family and I always think about the possibility of returning to live there one day. We miss our friends and our life there a lot.”

Although Messi’s contract with Inter Miami runs until 2025, his openness about missing Barcelona keeps speculation alive about a possible return, especially given his pivotal role in the club’s history.

Despite his unending love for Barcelona and his contract with Inter Miami nearing its end, a return to Barcelona still seems out of reach for Messi.

The Argentine star is central to the Inter Miami project, having attracted ex-teammates like Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets to the MLS club.

Messi will also be expected to make an appearance with Inter Miami at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, meaning a possible move to the Blaugrana would have to wait until January 2026, when his contract expires.

At that point, Messi will be on his way to his 39th birthday and still has a promise to boyhood club Newell’s Old Boy in Argentina to keep, making a move to Barcelona unlikely.
