Barcelona's draw against Getafe saw them equal a 30-year unwanted record
LaLiga giants Barcelona have recorded a low point in their season after consecutive goalless draws against Girona and Getafe.
The Blaugrana failed to break down their opponents on both occasions, struggling once again to get past resolute defences, and failing to create ample scoring opportunities during these games.
Barcelona struggle to successive goalless draws to reach record lows
The Catalan club have failed to score in their last three matches, including the draws against Getafe and Girona and the 4-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey.
This represents the longest run of goalless fixtures for Barcelona since 2008, when they were managed by Dutch coach Frank Rijkaard, plunging the LaLiga leaders to a 15-year low in all competitions.
In the three matches between Real Madrid, Girona and Getafe, Barcelona created only two big chances, both against Getafe, meaning that they failed to create any clear scoring chances against Real Madrid and Girona.
Barcelona equal 30-year low after draw against Getafe
The records broken by Barcelona’s barren run get worse, as the consecutive goalless draws in the league were the first time the Catalans had failed to score in consecutive draws since 2005, when they played out 0-0 draws at the end of the 2004/05 season and the start of the 2005/06 season.
The draws against Girona and Getafe also represented the first time Barcelona had played out goalless draws in back-to-back games in the same LaLiga season since 1993.
Despite Barcelona running away with the 2022/23 LaLiga title, they have still shown cracks in the team, and have been suspect in patches, especially when first-team players are missing.
The Blaugrana were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in the group stage and lost their chance at redemption in the UEFA Europa League by losing to Manchester United in the round of 16 playoffs.
They also lost scandalously to Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey, but will be satisfied by the league title that is almost in their grasp already, while knowing that there are still many areas of the team to improve.
