REPORT: Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise willing to dump Nigeria for AFCON rivals
Michael Olise could be set to play a part at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast but not with the Super Eagles of Nigeria
The Cityzens join Liverpool and Manchester United in the fray alongside Chelsea in the race for the 22-year-old attacker's talents, which is becoming one of the most captivating storylines of the season.
Chelsea's failed attempt and rumoured release clause
Despite Chelsea's determined efforts to secure Olise in the summer transfer window of 2023, the talented player chose to stay at Selhurst Park by signing a new contract, tying him to the club until the end of the 2026/27 season.
However, speculation suggests that a release clause may come into play this summer, leaving Crystal Palace bracing themselves for the potential loss of their prized asset.
Top sides monitoring Olise's standout performances
The Football Insider reports that Liverpool and Manchester City have been closely monitoring Michael Olise's recent performances.
Both clubs are now gearing up for a fierce battle with Manchester United and Chelsea to secure the services of the promising Frenchman.
Overcoming injury setbacks and shining bright
Despite suffering from injuries earlier in the season, Olise has bounced back impressively. He has notched up five goals and one assist in his last nine Premier League appearances, including a memorable brace against Brentford in a 3-1 victory on December 30.
Since joining Palace from Reading in July 2021, Olise has accumulated an impressive record of 11 goals and 20 assists in 80 appearances for the club.
Olise's Youth Career and Transition to Senior Football
Interestingly, Olise's football journey began at renowned clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City during his youth career before making the move to Reading.
There, he made 73 first-team appearances, contributing seven goals and 14 assists, winning the PFA Championship Young Player of the Season award in his final campaign wih Reading.
Palace's Worries as Olise Faces More Time on the Sidelines
Unfortunately, another injury setback looms for Olise, as revealed by Palace head coach Roy Hodgson.
During a press conference ahead of their FA Cup clash with Everton, Hodgson disclosed that Olise had picked up another hamstring problem, raising concerns about his return to action.
The Price of Olise's Talent and the Impact of Champions League Qualification
Last summer, Olise's release clause was set at £35 million. However, it is now believed that the buy-out fee, set to become active at the end of this season, will be significantly higher.
The race to secure Olise's signature could be heavily influenced by the clubs' ability to secure Champions League football for the 2024/25 season, with both Manchester United and Chelsea facing fierce competition for a spot in top-level European action.
