Liverpool's Darwin Nunez was involved in an altercation with Colombian fans following Uruguay's Copa America defeat.

Liverpool's record-signing Darwin Nunez found himself at the centre of a shocking altercation with enraged Colombian fans in the aftermath of a heated Copa America semi-final clash,

The match, a tightly contested affair, saw a ten-man Colombia side pull off a narrow 1-0 victory over tournament favourites Uruguay, thanks to a first-half strike from Jefferson Lerma set up by former Real Madrid superstar James Rodriguez.

Despite playing the entire second half with a numerical advantage after Daniel Munoz's dismissal, Uruguay failed to find the elusive equaliser, leaving their players devastated.

But the drama was far from over as the final whistle blew, with tensions boiling over between the two sets of supporters.

A series of videos on social media show a strong quarrel breaking out between Colombian fans and the Uruguayan players, including Nunez and Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo.

Led by the Liverpool forward, the Uruguayan players attempted to confront the fans, but Nunez found himself on the receiving end of a vicious punch from one of the enraged Colombian supporters.

The sickening incident capped off a frustrating evening for Nunez and his Uruguay teammates, who were unable to overturn the narrow deficit and book their place in the final against Lionel Messi's Argentina.

This latest altercation is sure to raise questions about security measures at such high-profile international fixtures, with player safety seemingly compromised in the heat of the moment.
