Jamie Carragher was skeptical about Lisandro Martinez's small size as a centre-back but the Argentine has been a revelation in Man United's defence this season.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher had his doubts when Lisandro martinez joined Manchester United from Ajax last summer.
The former Champions League winner predicted that the Argentine is too short to play in central defence for Erik Ten Haag’s side.

Martial reacts angrily after being substituted to put Man United future in doubt
Manchester United striker Anthony Martial was disappointed with being substituted after 58 minutes against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon at the Vitality Stadium.
Martinez also helped his native country Argentina win the World Cup in Qatar with his commanding presence in the side led by Lionel Messi.
United are in contention to win the FA Cup this season after their League Cup success and are bound to finish in the Premier League top four with Martinez playing a key role in defence.
Carragher’s comments about Martinez
The centre-back has now earned his respect from Carragher who had earlier said in August 2022 that:
“That is small for any player on the pitch in some ways now, really.”
But all that changed when the legendary Liverpool defender said Martinez is a warrior and possesses leadership qualities, then admitted that he had made a mistake regarding his comments about the Argentine.

I gave everything — Phil Jones pens emotional letter as he departs Man United
Phil Jones has described his time at Manchester United as an honour but he's hurt he could not do more during his time at the Red Devils.
Carragher said on Sky Sports:
“[Too short to play in the Premier League] that is not about Lisandro Martinez, that is about any centre-back coming to the Premier League whose well under six-foot you think is going to have a problem.
“I just looked at him and thought, how can you overcome that in the Premier League.
“But just like with Casemiro, it is a massive drop off when Martinez is not in the Manchester United team defensively, but also his ability on the ball and playing out from the back.
“He is a warrior, he is a leader and when you think of that spine of the team, certainly him and Casemiro, two new signings, they have made a huge difference.
“So apologies Lisandro and all Man United fans can you stop tweeting me about Lisandro Martinez now please!”
