Liverpool secured their first win of 2023 after beating Wolves 1-0 in a tense FA Cup third round replay
Liverpool beat Wolves 1-0 and secured their passage into the FA Cup fourth round thanks to a stunning strike by Harvey Elliott.
After the first tie at Anfield saw VAR controversially deny Wolves a late winner, and subsequently force this evening’s replay, revenge may have been on the minds of Julen Lopetegui’s troops, and they wasted no time in taking the game to a Reds side still reeling from humbling defeats at Brentford and Brighton.

However, Liverpool responded by excellently pressing Wolves in the opening exchanges, forcing the hosts into giving the ball away on numerous occasions near their own penalty area before Elliott put Klopp's men ahead on 13 minutes with a fantastic strike from distance.

Elliott had already made several dangerous runs before finally flaunting his true skills, taking on the Wolves defence before unleashing a fierce strike past Jose Sa from distance, with the Portuguese goalkeeper out of position as he grasped at thin air.
Wolves came out for the second period with more intensity, looking to play more on the front foot. Julen Lopetegui brought on Daniel Podence and Matheus Cunha as they looked to get themselves back into the game.
Despite new Wolves signing Matheus Cunha wildly shooting over in the final minutes, the ease with which Liverpool got over the line may have had them pinching themselves after a difficult campaign, with Wolves barely testing Liverpool’s cup keeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
Klopp will be satisfied with his side, as the reigning FA Cup holders sealed a win in a competition that may represent their best chance of silverware this season
A trip to Brighton awaits Liverpool in the fourth round.
