Luiz Diaz returns to training following a long injury lay-off.

Liverpool's injury problems improve as the season approaches its decisive stage, with winger Luiz Diaz reportedly back in training.

The 26-year-old Colombia international injured his knee in Liverpool's 2-1 loss to Arsenal in October and has been out of action since.

Diaz back training

Football insider reported that during the course of the international break, Luis had a progression in his recovery and has spent the week training with the Reds u-21 team.

The former Porto man was previously scheduled to return shortly after the World Cup, but he suffered a setback in his recovery process, forcing Liverpool into the transfer market to sign Cody Gakpo.

With the knowledge of the previous setback in mind, the club have planned to take a cautious approach to his reintegration in order to avoid a relapse.

He trained properly with the u-21s over the past week and was said to have completed several training sessions without feeling any discomfort.

He is expected to rejoin the senior team on the return of club football, and although inclusion in the squad to face Manchester City may be too early for the forward, his return to action is imminent.

His previous setback

As we reported previously, Luis Diaz left the Reds training camp in Dubai after suffering a setback in his recovery from a knee injury in December.

Diaz suffered the original injury against Arsenal back in October and had not been fit to play since, but there was optimism from Liverpool supporters when the Colombian winger travelled with the squad to Dubai.

Diaz reportedly only returned to be involved in specific parts of team training on Tuesday, after eight weeks away. He then felt discomfort in the same knee he had injured, and so it was decided that he would return to the UK.
