The Reds were ruthless as they dispatched Sevilla and could challenge Arsenal and Manchester City for the Premier League title this season
Liverpool continued their formidable pre-season form with a commanding 4-1 victory over Sevilla at Anfield, sending a clear message to Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester City.
A brace from Luis Diaz as well as strikes from Diogo Jota and Trey Nyoni helped Liverpool overpower Sevilla, whose consolation goal was scored by Peque Fernandez
How it happened
The Reds continued their impressive run from their USA tour, where they defeated Real Betis, Arsenal, and Manchester United.
In a dominant first half, Diogo Jota opened the scoring for the Reds with a stunning volley, before Luis Diaz's six-minute brace, including a fierce strike and a simple tap-in put the game beyond Sevilla.
The perennial Europa League champions briefly threatened a comeback with a goal from summer signing Peque, but Liverpool quickly restored their three-goal lead through 17-year-old Trey Nyoni, who scored shortly after Peque's goal.
Liverpool's impressive performance under new manager Arne Slot marks their fourth consecutive win in pre-season, putting them in great form ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
The match also featured Super Eagles stars Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidera Ejuke, with the former making his debut for Sevilla after a summer move from Leicester, while the latter came on as a second half substitute, providing the assist for the Spanish side’s consolatory goal.
