Diogo Jota's solitary first-half goal was all that Liverpool needed to see off an uninspiring Crystal Palace side in a routine victory.

How it happened

Crystal Palace thought they had taken the lead in the first minute of the match as ex-Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah had the ball in the back of the net, but the goal was ruled out for a clear offside.

It was Liverpool who eventually got the early goal through Portuguese forward Diogo Jota profited from a Cody Gakpo assist in the ninth minute of the game.

Liverpool were on top for most of the match against Crystal Palace but failed to add to their lead during the rest of the 90 minutes.

Crystal Palace had a few chances to find the leveller but found Alisson Becker in goal for Liverpool too difficult to beat for an equaliser.

Unfortunately for The Reds, they lost Alisson midway through the second-half as the Brazilian appeared to suffer a groin strain while making an awkward clearance.

In his place, Liverpool were forced to give a debut to Vítezslav Jaros, who did well to maintain the clean sheet for the Reds.
