Ex-Liverpool Markstar questions the Reds pursuit of France World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe.
Kylian Mbappe's future continues to stir the pot in the football world. With his contract at Paris Saint-Germain dwindling down, everyone's wondering where this superstar forward is headed next.
Real Madrid's always on the lookout for the next big thing, but the Premier League has popped up as another potential stage for Mbappe's magic. Liverpool's name's been thrown in the mix, but former Reds stalwart Mark Lawrenson has his doubts.

Mbappe and Liverpool: A Match Made in Heaven or a Misfit?
Lawrenson, a name synonymous with Liverpool's glory days, isn't sold on the idea of Mbappe lighting up Anfield. He's wary of Mbappe's fit in the demanding Premier League, suggesting the French maestro might be more suited to the star-studded life at Real Madrid.
Lawrenson told Paddy Power: “If Kylian Mbappe signs and he is a free agent, he will make millions. You must be careful about the dressing room balance; Mo Salah might ask for more money, as will Virgil van Dijk. I’m a little bit worried. I think he is a Real Madrid player, and not sure he’s a slog it in the Premier League.”
“In a way you’d love to have him, but it might cause a few problems, and when you think what you’d have to pay him, you could get two or three players in. If Liverpool knew that Salah was going at the end of the season, maybe what they get for him they could spend on Mbappe’s wages—if that’s the case, I would take him, but I wouldn’t want to spend so much money if that wasn’t the case.”
The Salah Factor: A Twist in the Tale
The plot thickens with Mohamed Salah, Liverpool's Egyptian king. His contract runs until 2025, but he's already 31. Could Liverpool cash in this summer? If Salah exits stage left, Mbappe could be the blockbuster signing to fill the void. But Lawrenson points out the financial balancing act—Mbappe's arrival could spark a wage war in the dressing room.
